can't agree re: vieira substitution. imo we were at least more effective after that substitution. without it we would have lost. ireland was poor and can't play against teams as physical as stoke.

Lest we forget, before mancini, we were conceding close to 3 goals a game. In the last 3 games we did conced 3 in each so a period of trying to stabilise things was in order. He's done better than that we are joint 4th with 2 games in hand, we also beat united once and were close to beating them over 2 legs. I am positive we would not have won that under hughes either, in fact we would not have got that close. In addition, with Hughes attitude to defence I doubt we would have won all the games we have.

Overall Mancini has done quite well in a job he'd been thrown into with another manager's signings and a lot of his backroom staff too. It will take a bit of time to correct the Hughes mess and it certainly won't happen in 7 games even if you are Jose.

I have to agree with you. Something is really wrong at Eastlands. I have never seen such a lacklustre display, er... actually I have, last week and then the week before that. Do we seriously think we will achieve 4th place with performances like that? I mean, seriously? I'm sorry, but if City don't raise their game and display more passion the I will be joining the growing list of people calling for Mancini's head. 'Pride in Battle'? Yeah, right...whatever!

At what point do we accept that it's not all the manager's fault? The problem is the balance in the squad, and that is not easy to fix in a January transfer window when teams won't sell. Ireland has a lot of ability but is too weak, and we have no other passing central midfielders. We need more all rounders - who can pass and move, but also stick the foot in. At the moment we have too many spoilers and not enough creative players in midfield. I think Mancini needs time- we are not going to get to the top 4 by swapping and changing managers every time we play badly. Oh- and Mourinho was a defensive manager too. I am sure some would be moaning after a couple of weeks with him too.

I sometimes think there's more a than few City fans who talk like they were born yesterday. What Mancini has got to do is to right the wrongs of a team with attacking flair and a back four mentality which would concede goals if we had two keepers. Once he unlocks that little conundrum you will watch us go, if he doesn't I'm afraid he'll go due to inheriting a squad which is unbalanced and lacks a leader. Not his fault, we all know who bought the current crop of players and tactics were never his strong point. Lets all get behind Mancini as changing managers regularly has worked a treat for the last thirty odd years hasn't it?

Fair points one and all. Hughes should never have gone. The football we play now is mind numbingly boring and it rests with one man.

This whingeing, moaning and griping is becoming as much 'typical City' as our ability to cock things up.
Anyone really feeling nostalgia for the Good Old Days of Ball and Frankie Clarke?
Leave Mancini to get on with sorting out the mess and let's count our blessings. We reached a semi final for the first time for yonks; we are 5th in the Prem with 2 games in hand; we are still in the FA Cup.Bridge and Lescott look like they might be coming good and Vieira will be a steadying influence given time.
Okay, so Ireland, Toure and (maybe) Barry are under-performing. So is Petrov - the moaners are starting to get at him yet only 3 weeks ago he was the fans' darling and they wanted Richards on his bike. You lot are so bloody fickle.
Why waste your energy. Try getting behind the team instead.
Lastly, for God's sake lay off Ade. He's not a rough and tumble centre forward, he's an exceptionally skilful player who just happens to be tall. The balls he's been getting, humped from midfield, have been woeful. He's also a very fragile character and he's been through traumatic times. He needs our support, not our derision.

Great article.
Hughes put together a talented, well balanced squad. They were just getting used to each other. Then we ditched him.
Mancini is just ruining a promising season. He is total rubbish. We would of been at wembley now if Hughes had stayed. He would of gone for the rags throat in the first leg instead of hanging on. That's where we lost it.
No chance of fourth place under this clown. Typical City.
We should get Keegan in as caretaker till the end of the season.

This is my third visit to this blog. We are starting a new initiative in the same niche as this blog. Your blog provided us with important information to work with. You have done a fantastic job. I remember scouring the old Beckett Magazine price guides and seeing such players as Mickey Mantle, Babe Ruth, Willie Mays and, of course, probably the most coveted of all baseball collectibles.
