Suspect most of the criticism is down to not understanding the man or his tactics.

This is not really surprising given we lack a settled back 4 due to Africa , injuries etc and as such more defensive cover from midfield is only natural. This then naturally impinges on the midfield options and we are likely to see more of the pragmatic approach seen last night - especially given our next few fixtures. Question is do we want to see a solid 433 and probably win OR a more fluid formation and risk leaving ourselves open at the back and possibly lose?

Frankly I`ve waited long enough for success and if we have to do it ugly so be it!

In any event we can expect more of the Sylvinho type of substitutions as RM seeks to close out a winning situation.

If the football is poor then we need to win trophies. Portsmouth and Bolton were awful games - as a 15+ year season ticket holder I would seriously consider renewing if it's going to be that bad each week.

Going to City is a hobby, supposed to be fun. Being tortured by playing well and continually getting beaten is fine. Watching us pass the ball across the back four for 90 minutes is f*kin tedious at best.

I sat behind a fella last night who was shouting nothing but negativity in Mancini and the player's direction. The guy had little to no knowledge of football and just sounded stupid but I often wonder why our fans are so willing to turn up whilst being so unwilling to support the team. People say we've got some of the best fans in the country but from my experience, when it really matters we're not that great, or intelligent.

i'm stunned.... i am a 15 yr season ticket holder and up and till a couple of years ago I would have donated my right testicle to be where we are now - challenging for champs league and the richest club in the world... when did city fans start developing memory loss...
at least we are winning games, boring and winning is better than boring and shite, i've had 12 years of the latter

I've never known so many whingers at home games. It's as if the whole of the new stadium has become like the Main Stand was at Maine Road. There are blokes behind us who do nothing but shout abuse at the City players all game - "Given, you useless c**t" was the pick last night. I've no gripe with people booing at the end of a poor performance, but how is shouting this at your own players supporting the team? In the old days of the Kippax these people wouldn't be allowed to do it as they'd get a shoeing, but these days it's just accepted.
Personally, I hope the owners spend a few dozen million on redesigning one end of the stadium so we have a Kop. I'm not for a minute suggesting Liverpool fans are great, but at least they have one area of their ground which is, to a degree, self-policing.
In the space of 10 years we've gone from having fans to be proud of to being an embarrassment to the club. Just my opinion.

Amen to that City Mick. To MGT, i kind of see what you are saying pal, but if you think about it, if you are continually getting beaten, you're not playing well! - and that doesn't make for a fun hobby. Mancini is the manager but the team is still Hughes's and there is no way the owners are going to give the guy (RM) the same carte blanche with the team and chequebook as they did with Hughes. He HAS to succeed with what he has been given in a limited space of time and winning games by the odd goal in seven isn't on his agenda at the moment. Come on guys'n'gals - we're joint fourth with game(s) in hand!

i Can't believe all the negativity around the performances. What do these people want. Wev are 15 points better off than this time last season, PROGRESS. We have scored more goals than this time last season, PROGRESS. We have conceded fewer goals than this time last season, PROGRESS. We have lost fewer games than this time last season, PROGRESS. We have got to a major semi for the first time in 29 years, PROGRESS. When a new manager comes in it takes time, the players have to adapt to his way of playing, not the other way around. If you want to moan all the time go and watch that lot over the road because there going to have loads to moan about in the near future. Nuff Said!!!!!

The bottom line is that a manager only gets away with negative tactics whilst he is winning matches. Fans will accept defeat, to some extent, if the team is playing attractive, attacking football and if people can't understand why people are like that then I think they are odd. As with most things in life though, it is all about balance. I don't want to see City piling forward like school children and letting in a ton of goals but I also don't want us to play 3 holding midfielders at home to Bolton. Something in between would be good and ultimately would probably be more successful. Obviously making 4th place is everything in the short term as it will assist our long term goals enormously, however, I think we are as unlikely to make 4th place with the current tactics as we were when Hughes was there with his total lack of tactics. I don't see why we can't pick a nice blend of players which would include a MAXIMUM of 2 holding players mixed with some creativity and pace. We have the personnel at our disposal.

Incidentally to those who compare this season to last and say "that is progress so stop whinging." I think that is terribly simplistic. Yes of course we have progressed BUT we have spent an awful lot of money and therefore it might be reasonable to expect more progress. BigBluePaul, would you have accepted being one place higher than last season and one point better off? I suspect not yet that would have been progress. We all have different ideas of what is acceptable progress given the sums of money spent. The real problem is that 4th spot is more up for grabs this season than ever and (quite rightly imo) many people think with our squad we should be able to take that 4th spot. If we can't do it this season, there is a good chance that we won't have anywhere near as good a chance next season. Everyone needs to get behind RM, no doubt, but I can completely understand why fans are dismayed at recent performances and no, I haven't forgotten going away to York in Div 2 and losing!

What you get with an Italian manager is someone who does enough and then preserves it. The classic example was 1st leg Semi against the rags. 2-1 up and they wee there for the taking. Instead we preserved that 2-1 win. I think he will make 4th spot to preserve his career but we need o accustom ourselves to the Italian style
