Mancini's tactical nous is exactly what was missing when Hughes was at the helm. When playing united, an advantage that every team has is the fact that Ferg doesn't make very good tactical decisions mid-game. He prepares his players to do X so well, that when X fails, Y and Z sometimes never really get going. I mean grant it, they did improve the number of scoring opportunities at the end but basically most of it was just Wayne Rooney carrying the team on his back, nothing fancy from ferguson. If you see how poorly recently United have faired against other chess match managers with talented squads, this should come as little surprise. I don't forsee United doing anything much different the second leg aside from having Berbatov up front with rooney.

Two things city might want to do is introduce Ireland in the middle for Zab, Put Barry on the left... who needs to control the ball much better at OT and put Dejong (our best defender) on the right to shut down the Evra/Giggs problem that we really havent been able to sort out in some time. I hope Mancini keeps Viera on the sideline, he's to much of a liability on set pieces despite his height, last year his failed marking of Vidic cost Inter dearly.

Regardless, I think city get thru because basically we'll have 120 minutes to score 1 goal!!

You are spot on! I liked you analysis, to the point and detailed. I am my city firend were shouting for Mancini to bring on Ireland to cause some havoc in the attacking midfield. He would have given us the player to continue to pressure ManUre's backline and holding mid (Carrick). Ireland seems to have the knack of finding the right pass as we break through the midfield and then continue his runs into dangerous areas. If he is fit, he will rival Tevez for the "johnny hustle" award.

A perceptive analysis I feel. City definitely suffered In that last 15/20 minutes from being completely unable to retain any kind of posession and this coincided with Tevez going off and Benjani coming on. Felt that the midfield and forward players needed to play a bigger part here but maybe fatigue had set in? Can't have more of the same next week though, utd will roll us over and definitely need a few new personnel to come in...hopefully Viera to drive the midfield and Adebayor to hold up the ball and give Tevez and Bellamy someone to play off. Makeshift defence did pretty well again, particularly as you say after Mancini changed things around in front of them. Interesting piece. Cheers, David

I'm happy that in spite of being second best side in football terms, Mancini will now have an idea what we will need on Wednesday. I hope he uses Stevie in the middle to make those runs into the box, Zab will be in midfield I think, his passing must improve, DeJong is the unspoken man of the match in most games, he will need to be at his best, I hope he's up for it. Barry's injury needs time to heal, somebody will have to cover for him - Sylvinho looks likeliest.

Anyway, cheers Bloovic for a very clear analysis as always, even I can understand it!
