Moneybags City at it again!!
Newspapers and their websites easily influence the thinking of their readers, and they well know that to be true. They can take the most innocuous remark and turn it into something completely different with a deft flick of the pen, or the keyboard. In the last few weeks I have watched City's efforts to build a team almost from scratch ridiculed and vilified.
I am not whinging, we have set ourselves up as a club that are not satisfied merely being cannon-fodder for the top premier teams to take points off, and actually want to improve, and quickly, by buying quality players, and do so in a respectful and considered manner. That is manna from heaven for the press, who are never happy unless they can point an accusing finger at the moneybags. The fact that no other club gets the same treatment is something we will have to get used to, grin and bear.
Mr Ancelotti is a gentleman in the true sense, well respected, and has every right to promote his new club as the best in the world in his eyes. I wouldn't expect anything else. When he spoke yesterday of players not being attracted by money alone, but also passion and "other things", he is quite right - most players now will pay as much attention to the position of the club in Europe. The fact is that CL football is an important stage in any player's career, and City are not in that, or any other European competition for now so we are asking them to take quite a leap of faith in order to sign with City. Some are more than happy to do so, some believe they have bigger fish to fry. ca ne fait rien.
That's the obstacle that Cooke and Hughes have to overcome, we are untried, untested, so they have to sell us well, and our only USP (in business-speak, our unique selling point) is that we dare to spend money on chasing the dream. If they don't buy into that, then there's nobody to blame, no fingers to point, no accusations to be made, it comes down to the player's personal choice. It is always referred to as a snub, but in reality it isn't.
So, we watch and wait, will Charlie Tevez disappear up his own 'arris in a cloud of acrimony against his previous employers? Will John Terry (Mr Chelsea) drag himself off the Spanish golf course to tell the world he is a blue and always will be? (Chelsea blue of course) We are all biting our nails in case they turn us down and we end up signing nobody.
Not such a big deal unless you write for the Mirror, in actual fact. We have strengthened the squad and it won't be a disaster if we start the season as we are - we are perfectly capable of maintaining a decent challenge and moving forward and, in the meantime, if we do bring in more talent, great.
Finally, to the tune of "We're busy doing nothing" -
"So, Terry's going nowhere, isn't it just a crime, I'd like to be unhappy but.....................I really don't have the time"

It wasn't that long ago that Chelsea were in exactly the same position and i wonder, if Ancelloti had been appointed during those early days of Chelsea's metamorphosis, would he have been choosing the same assertions about money not being enough to attract the best players, as part of his opening speech to the club?
Of course he wouldn't. He'd have been saying the exact opposite.
It left me feeling a bit hollow to be honest.
We are, they know damn well at some point sooner rather than later going to wreck this arrangement. One of the protected ones will face the harsh financial realities of the real world.
It is this fear that binds the media and top four against us.
But keep fighting, the MUEN some 24 months or so back had an advert on our web page in the paper of a rubbish dump with flies buzzing round it.
It was an insult, I wrote and wrote to no avail untill finally I wrote to the editor demanding it was taken off or I would write to all the papers advertizers threatning a boycott of thier products through association with the MUEN.
The advert went off the next day.
So dont stop, we will win in the end just need to hit them where it hurts most, either financially or otherwise.
TEVEZ: Say he opts for Chelsea blue, rather than true blue - yeah, just as it should be, they'll say.. He has voted for football & ambition over money'
BUT HAS HE?? He gets the same deal there as his erstwhile employers in Stretford but with MORE money!! He won't be going straight into the team week in, week out. He will get lots of bench time (won't feel loved) and misses out (more often than not) on the BIG games to others (Drogba, Anelka et al). At City he will be getting first team football AND LOTS OF IT. He says that is what he wants!! Yeah, he will also get lots more money but that kind of goes with the territory, doesn't it?! He (his agent) professes he wants to be in a club 'with ambition' and be part of the building process. Is that Chelsea? Maybe.....6-7 years ago!! But that does sound like Eastlands, tho.
Time will tell, but we live in hope. Either way, don't let tham tell us City is only about money, I mean Real Madrid has a 'project' but they don't get ridiculed for it! Approaching £200M and still no jokes or outrage.
STURRIDGE: Has gone to Chelsea - for football, ambition?? Again, lots of bench time, Dan. But don't let me stop you counting your cash & I do wish you well, genuinely. Sadly, I think you will need it - ask SWP what moving to Chelsea does to you, and he was a better player than you when he went!
ETO'O: I get the impression he just wants more cash (from Barca) - using City as a 'stalking horse' but, if I am wrong, how exciting would it be to see him at Eastlands? Also, if 'Top 4' came in for him, like KAKA before, I reckon he would let go (somewhat) on the £12.5M he wants from Barca to go.
Finally, I hope MH gets over this Terry thing - 3 or 4 years he was something, not sure anymore, he is not the player he thinks he is! MH should go for Lescott, Samba, either/or or even both.
Cheers for now
Absolutely true Nige.
