At the end of his Rope?
February 15th, 2009
Waking up with the blues is something we have become accustomed to over the years, however the absolute capitulation yesterday against an average Portsmouth side was a bitter pill to swallow for many City fans, and our own WIGLEY here looks into the reasons.
"I have always maintained that I will judge the manager when he has had a fair period. When he has had chance to introduce his players and tactics - I would do the same for any City manager.
Hughes has undoubtedly brought in better players but cannot seem to employ a system that suits them.
To play our current system you need a "target man" - we dont have one!
You also need midfield players that are prepared to get up and support him - we dont have any!
What we had yesterday was two holding midfielders and three fairies.
So lets look at this - with Micah out Zaba should have gone to right fullback (Logan is too small and a championship player at best) but he could not do this because we would have been overrun in midfield as the three other players cant tackle.
Everyone has been screaming out for Elano, yesterday showed you what he is about, and it ain't much!
Robinho is a total waste of time away from home. His passing is poor, his workrate is appalling and he is scared stiff of the physical side of the game!
Ireland is running around like a headless chicken playing 2 yard passes, flicking and back heeling the ball all over the place instead of playing defence splitting passes.
This system is crap, but we are being forced to play it, as we do not have the players for 4 4 2.
Hughes should have addressed these problems in the transfer window, and did not!
He should have had an alternative to Santa Cruz!
He should have bought someone for the left of midfield!
We should be playing 4-4-2!
He should ditch the passengers in the team - if you cant put 100% in every match you have no right to be playing for Manchester City - world star or not!
And whether this is palatable to most City fans it is the truth!"
So, the jury is still out but the hangman's noose is being prepared. With Wigley maybe pulling the rope in Copenhagen on Thursday night (beer intake depending)

WIGLEY
Was this our worst performance of the season? The last word goes to Wilhelm;
Its a draw between
Stoke and Forest
Pompey was terrible
but there was a little
effort, as pathetic
as the passing was
Stoke was like drinking gasoline
and Forest was like drinking gasoline and smoking simutaneously
