Awayday - Fratton Park
The only premiership game of the day, the match that was frozen off on January 10th.
Since January City have added some strength to the squad, and, showing signs of improvement at home, are now eager to be tested away. Shaun Wright-Phillips has become a victim of the FA's curious rule-twisting antics, so will be missing for three, perhaps it is now time for Elano to bite the bullet and show us his class, as he did for his country against Italy the other night.
Pompey's woes have continued to make the headlines for all the wrong reasons, and will be stewarded in the short-term by a partnership of caretaker manager Paul Hart and Brian Kidd. Two excellent coaches with a wealth of experience, and a team that are desperate for points! Usually a recipe for disaster for ANY visiting side.
Brian Kidd
Brian Kidd look-alike (well, I think so, anyway)
For Pompey, on-loan Jermaine Pennant is likely to start also Nico Krancjar. Armand Traore is back from injury, as are Marc Wilson and Younes Kaboul. Greek international signing Theofanis Gekas may have his debut in front of the home crowd tomorrow, so City will need to be on their guard. Pompey's fire-power is beyond question. The defensive weaknesses evident in recent games may suddenly disappear tomorrow also, as James and Distin will be more than eager to pay us back for the embarrassing defeat they suffered at Eastlands. I still carry the happy memory of a dejected Sol sat slumped on the pitch while City celebrated. Haha!
Stevie Ireland is under no illusions about how tough it will be tomorrow against a managerless side, beware wounded animals!
"Usually there is an improvement, but I don't think we should look into what Portsmouth are doing too much. it's more a case of how we are going to do it. We need to push on and win these games, we beat them at home and now we are into the second half of the season so we have to try to do the same thing again."
I believe we are on the way to a good finish to the season and a famous victory tomorrow!
But we will have to score one more than them.
